After the great October turnaround, Yugoslavia returned to the international stage with mind boggling speed. The first steps taken by Yugoslav diplomacy were attended with applause and great expectations. Belgrade once again became part of the world, while Foreign Affairs Minister Goran Svilanovic's popularity, next to Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica's, increased with similar speed...

Actually, the whole story about the rest of DOS could be summarized by this well known children's verse. At this moment, things truly do stand that way where behind the two main actors of the Serbian political scene a huge chasm exists, after which, in a chaotic line, the remaining DOS stars are lined up. Kostunica and Djindjic, their relations, conflicts and truces take up so much of the political public's attention and energy, that all other issues and personalities acquire meaning only in relation to this fundamental rift.
