Radoman Bozovic, Speaker of the Federal Parliament's Chamber of Citizens
Year and place of birth: Born in 1953 in the village of Sipcan, near Niksic, Montenegro.
Nationality: Montenegrin of Serb origin. ``I was the first Prime Minister of the Vojvodina who is not from Vojvodina. Therefore, I come from wherever I happen to be at the time.''
His opinion about the Montenegrins: ``The Montenegrins are shit.''
Education: Secondary education competed in Vrbas, the Faculty of Economics in Subotica, Vojvodina, 1975. Economist by profession, Ph.D. and professor at the Faculty of Economics in Subotica by vocation. M.S. in1978 and Ph.D. in 1981 (for the thesis ``Social Ownership and Economic Relations of Socialist Self-management''). Momir Bulatovic, the President of Montenegro, was his assistant teacher during the studies.
Nicknames: Ramboman, Editorinchief of Vojvodina, Stool (as he's rather short).
Destiny: ``It's my destiny to be president of something.''
Official positions: Collects them passionately. For example, while a member of the Serbian Parliament he simultaneously held nine significant positions: an MP, president of Vojvodina's Executive Council, a delegat and a head of Vojodina's delegation in the Parliament of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRJ), head of the parliamentary group of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), professor at the Faculty of Economics in Subotica and the University of Titograd, president of the Board for Relations with the Serbs outside Serbia, a member of the SPS Executive Board for Vojvodina and informal editor of all media in Vojvodina. He was subsequently appointed Prime Minister of Serbia.
Marks of honour: Is fond of them and receives them gladly (or bestows them on hisself). The first thing he did following his election as Speaker of the Federal Parliament's Chamber of Citizens was to move in a representative cabinet in the parliament building. He brought new furninture and chose the most luxurious Merzedes of all offical cars belonging to the Federal Parliament.
Greatest ability: To gain an enemy.
Famous for: Affairs. Two government ministers were arrested during his premiership.
When did he become famous: As Secretary of the Municipal Committe of the Communist League of Subotica.
What was he like as Prime Minister: Hardcore bureaucrat. A half of the Serbian economy came under state-ownership. After one hundred days in office the inflation was 10,000 per cent. At the end of his mandate people formed Russian queues in front of Rumanian shops, and the Albanian quality was wishful thinking.
They accuse him of: Opponents claim that Bozovic has thus far made only empty promises. They claimed that he intended to sell National Park Fruska gorato the Italians. That he owns unregistered casinos in Vojvodina.
How he refutes accusations: ``I've got neither time nor ambitions for that. Whoever has an evidence agaisnt my moral integrity he may use them in the legal or other proceedings.''
What is he like as Speaker of the Citizens' Chamber: He is responsible for instant ousting of the Yugoslav President with no respect whatsoever, as some say, for elementary legal and moral norms. Instigated and allowed verbal aggressiveness and violence (against Mihajlo Markovic, the member of the Serbian Renewal MovementSPO) in the parliament.
What does he do as Speaker and how: Does everything that other speakers do but with a lot less style and with much more force.
Why do MP's demand demand his resignation: More than a third of all MP's are dissatisfied with his work and have been trying to replace him for over a year. The latest request for his resignation was signed by 48 MP's from the Serbian Radical Party (SRS), the Democratic Movement of Serbia (DEPOS), the People's Party of Montenegro (NSCG), and the Democratic Party (DS) because, ``Bozovic flagrantly violates the Chamber's standing orders which results in complete volunatrism in the work of this body... He provokes conflicts, and disdainful of MP'S ignores their proposal, denies them rights that are granted by the Constitution thus undermining the reputation and dignity of the Citizens' Chamber.''
How powerful is he actually: As much as he is allowed to be.
Who are his friends: All his superiors.
Who are his enemies: All his subordinates.
The biggest passion: To make decision on his own about everything and everybody.
What should he fear: His own character and unbridled ambitions.
What can he hope for: After the most recent inicdent Radmilo Bogdanovic stated that Bozovic should consider submitting his resignation.
Will Bozovic read this text: No. ``I don't read VREME and don't know whether it comes out.''
