Marko Milosevic, son of Slobodan Milosevic and Mirjana Markovic

A Promising Driver

by Ivan Radovanovic

Marko Milosevic, the son of Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic, says that of all the papers, he prefers to read the Belgradebased biweekly "Duga,'' "especially the first few pages'' (where his mother Mirjana Markovic has her Diary). Marko agreed, although reluctantly, to talk to VREME, which he doesn't read, but claims is "an opposition paper, through and through.''

We talked in a cafe in Pozarevac, in front of which Marko had parked a Suzuki GSX 1100 R motorbike, which he told us, he had borrowed. First about Ayrton Senna.

VREME: Was he your idol?

MARKO: No. I just liked the way he drove in rainy weather. Of all those drivers I like Nigel Mansell best.

VREME: How do you drive, and what do you drive?

MARKO: I came third in the last race. Otherwise I drive a Suzuki Swift GTI at rallies, and a BMW M 3 when training.

VREME: Are races your only interest?

MARKO: I've finished secondary school and I'm free until October. Then I'll study, but I haven't decided what yet. I'll decide in August.

VREME: You won't become a professional driver?

MARKO: That's what I'm doing now, and I think this is where my future lies. At any rate, I'll drive for as long as there are people ready to invest in this sport.

VREME: There are a lot of people around you. Do they have a special attitude to the President's son?

MARKO: I like to be friends with those who do not have a special attitude. That way there are no problems.

VREME: You're not interested in politics?

MARKO: No.

VREME: Are you a member of some party?

MARKO: No. But let me make things clear, since some of the things I've said have been misinterpreted, and I didn't formulate them properly. The fact that I don't belong to any single party doesn't mean that I'm not committed.

VREME: How are you committed?

MARKO: Ideologically, I'm a Communist, and I wish to add that this has nothing to do with my parents.

VREME: What, in your opinion is Communism?

MARKO: Read "Das Kapital" by Karl Marx and "Sociology" by Mira Markovic, and you'll see.

VREME: That's Communism?

MARKO: Yes. That's it.
