Draskovic Trial Postponed

The judge used his discretionary right to schedule the beginning because the indictment hasn't been contested in due time. All the summons and subpoenas have been duly sent, but the presidents od the District and County Courts of Belgrade got alarmed and asked for the postponement. The summons and subpoenas were already at the post office, so the bailiffs had to retrieve them - all but two which already left. The letters have been sent asking the recipients to disregard the previous summons. The reason for such decision is that the judges in Serbia are facing the reelection procedures this summer, meaning that the hot issue of Draskovic trial will present a dramatic problem: if they find him guilty, it could be dangerous; if they find him non guilty, it could be even more dangerous. So, facing the reelection, the judges and court presidents reached for the old tactics of protracting. All court presidents being members of the Socialist Party of Serbia, their reluctance is understandable. The trial is postponed "until further notice".
