Seselj: Chronology of Aggression

Baseball Bat

In the Autumn of 1990, a member of the Serbian Cetnik Movement was beaten up with a baseball bat in a restaurant in the suburbs, in the vicinity of Studentski Grad. Vojislav Seselj: "I could have beaten them with my bare hands, except that when a man beats somebody and delivers such serious blows, he is liable to hurt his hands, which is why I used a baseball bat." ("Nasi Dani", December 21, 1990)

Monastery

On August 2, 1990, Seselj broke a commemorative tablet dedicated to the ASNOM meeting in the Prohor Pcinjski Monastery.

Camera

In 1990, in Belgrade in Dom Omladine, Seselj and his supporters caused havoc with the objective of disrupting the pre-campaign promotion of Belgrade reformers. The writer Mirko Kovac was hit in the head with a camera. Seselj’s commentary: "Mirko Kovac deservedly got hit in the head by a camera so that he might gather his wits about him... Mirko Markovic is a traitor of the Serbian people because he joined the Markovic Alliance of Reformers which is made of only Serbian traitors." ("Nasi Dani", December 21, 1990)

Play

"That play ("Sveti Sava" in the autumn of 1990, given at Yugoslav Dramatic Theater) was stopped by our youth." (Start, May 1, 1990)

Spoons

At the beginning of the war (in the autumn of 1991, after incidents at Plitvice and the Village of Borovo), on Politika Television, he stated that "Cetniks no longer gouge out eyes with knives, but with rusted spoons". Later he claimed that it was only a joke. The drawing of a gun on Minimaksovizija 1993 is yet another manifestation of the same type of brutal humor.

Wooden Spikes

In May 1991, the assault on the House of Flowers by groups of Cetniks armed with wooden spikes was called off (armed thus they posed for reporters).

List

In 1992, during the strike at Radio Belgrade on the evening television news Seselj read out a list of names of the dissident journalists who should be fired from state radio and television, because they "work for foreign intelligence agencies, parties of Serbian traitors, such as HDZ and VMRO". Seselj asked that their places be filled by journalists who are "proven Serbian patriots".

Beating Up Taxi Drivers

On June 11, 1992, in front of Federal Parliament, Seselj hit a striking taxi driver with his fist when the latter swore at him. Then Seselj’s bodyguards fired a few rounds from automatic guns.

Beating Up Teachers

In June of 1992, Seselj beat up teachers who were demonstrating in front of the Serbian Parliament. "I hit one with my hand, and the other with my foot", Vojislav Seselj bragged.

Gun Aimed at Students

On June 9, 1992, at the entrance to the Serbian Parliament, Seselj pointed a gun at the sky, threatening demonstrators of the ‘92 Student Protest who threw soap at him, with shouts "wash your bloodied hands". "This time I only responded with threats. Next time I will respond fully and will not answer for the consequences of possible victims and bloodshed. Next time I will act out of revenge", stated Seselj.

Attack on Photojournalists

On July 10, 1992, in the restaurant of the Serbian Parliament, MP Seselj attacked photojournalist Djordje Vukoja of Srpska Rec, braking his camera in the process.

Disruption

On May 18, 1994, Vojislav Seselj and four Radicals were accused of "disrupting a public official in the performance of his duty", that is to say the security which tried to eject Vojislav Seselj’s Radicals, Drasko Markovic, Filip Stojanovic and Slobodan Petricevic. At the trial on June 15, 1994, Vojislav Seselj called Milosevic "the top criminal in Serbia", which was sufficient reason for the public prosecutor to include defamation of the President of the Republic in the accusations.

Heavy Water

On September 27, 1994, the "water dousing" of Radovan Bozovic, President of the Citizen’s Committee of the Parliament of SRY was cause for stripping of immunity, and a three month jail sentence, from September 29 1994, to January 28, 1995.

Stripping of Arms

"On December of 1995, the leader of the Serbian Radicals personally submitted to the Committee for Internal Affairs of Zemun a 38 millimeter gun of the Smith & Wesson type. The representatives of MUP explained their decision to appropriate the gun by the fact that the "individual in question had been criminally charged", but they allowed him the possession of a CZ 99.9 millimeter gun which he received as a present from the Secretary of Internal Affairs of SRY! The mentioned gun was handed over by Mihalj Kertes, as witnessed by Brana Crncevic and Boza Spasic, and, as Seselj claims, "at the personal request of Slobodan Milosevic". (Borba, February 10-11, 1996)

Insults

Insults at the expense of political adversaries are Seselj’s usual manner. In September of 1992, in the Parliament, he insulted Ljubica Beba Dzakovic, advising her to contact one of Belgrade’s gigolo establishments. At the time of talks on election conditions in 1993, Seselj threatened and insulted MP’s, Svetozar Stojanovic and Dragoslav Rancic, of the then President of SRY, Dobrica Cosic. He slandered Professor Dragoljub Micunovic in the Parliament of SRJ, claiming that he "assaulted priests", while in the Serbian Parliament he stated about the heir to the throne Aleksandar that he is "disheveled" and that he "grazes on grass". In 1997, in a TV studio he stated indecencies about the fathers of professors Vladeta Jankovic and Zarko Korac. In the Studios of BK Television, he used the same approach in slandering the deceased father of Nikola Barovic, a renowned Belgrade lawyer and defender of Yugoslav dissidents, who perished in 1979 under mysterious circumstances which suggest the involvement of UDBA.
