Political "Encounters"

Head Butting, Fists, Bananas And Naked Breasts

Nis Mayor Zoran Zivkovic was knocked out by restaurant owner Bratislav Mitic who also threatened to kill him within three days. Zivkovic said Mitic was the bodyguard of former Nis Socialists Mayor Mile Ilic, and an organizer of the counter-rally in Belgrade last December. Zivkovic said Mitic also offered him his services. Mitic says he was never Ilic’s bodyguard but his friend and never offered himself to Zivkovic because "I’m a gentlemen and would never protect someone like him".

Zivkovic said the incident happened in front of SRS official Dragoljub Stamenkovic who told Mitic to stop because it was enough.

The reasons that might be behind the incident are politics but the most probable cause was reported by Dnevni Telegraf daily which said Mitic opened a pastry shop with no permits in a shop he rented from Ilic’s wife.

In Kragujevac, SRS members fought with security staff at the local TV station during and after a live show. DS officials there said the SRS group tried to break into the station but the security intervened and several of the Radicals slipped on banana peels. The Radicals are telling a heroic version of the tale. SRS secretary Aleksandar Vucic told Demokratija daily that local SRS official Rajica Milosavljevic left the station to get drinks at a local market where he was attacked by 15-20 SPO and DS sympathizers. Vucic said his official ran out of the store stripped to the waist and shouted "Come on Ustashi!". None of them dared come near.

The Radicals are increasingly becoming participants in incidents like these and if that means they’re following instruction on how to behave during the elections, the observers who come here should be charged tickets.
