Bingo!

by Dragoljub Zarkovic

It seems that they did not steal the votes in the elections, but they did steal in games of fortune. The Serbian Department of Public Income will initiate an investigation into money swindles in the "Bingo" affair, since three million dinars have evaporated. The finger is pointed at the Serbian National Lottery or the Football Club "Partizan". Interesting. Nobody finds money repulsive here, especially if it happens to belong to someone else. Somehow I sense that all this will hit the National Lottery, since the cream of society, comprising the "most honest" Serbs headed by Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Marjanovic is much too closely linked with "Partizan." The lottery salesmen are always under strict control in all serious states. In those most serious ones, the lottery is a matter of a state monopoly where the rules are precisely defined, as if those responsible for national gambling are working with uranium, rather than lottery tickets. Here, life is a lottery, so it is difficult to establish the rules. If everything is a game of chance, why wouldn't the lottery be as well. In a way it is expected that you should be cheated. I have a feeling that no one will cry over this theft. "Dnevni telegraf" was heroically pursuing this story. It was logical to expect that the other media would use the affair to sell their papers. During happier times, when stealing and cheating were not on such a large scale as they are now, the papers could live for at least two weeks on such a topic. Now, it is not news. Somebody stole something? So what! And then, when they hear that those damaged are the ones who play "bingo" and that it was the state that was robbed, I would not be surprised to read that the thieves have received congratulations. Everything is up-side-down here. Proof for that is not only found in the elections. In any case, they are held every four years, and we play with chance every day. The syllogism should be very simple: if our life is a lottery, if theft comes with lottery, then there is one conclusion: they will steal our lives from us!
