Interview: Milorad Dodik

Fight Against State Crime

by Tanja Topic

As the candidate of the Reformist Party, he became member of B&H's Parliament in 1990. After the beginning of the war, he formed the Party of Independent Social-Democrats of RS, being its leader from the start. He lives in Laktasi.

We asked Milorad Dodik for the Vreme weekly under what conditions he accepted to be the new Prime Minister, and he answered: "Under existing conditions at this moment, which means forming a Government consisting of representatives of three political parties. I believe that this is not a drawback and that there are resons for this government to function efficiently."

Do you expect that the side loyal to Pale can form a parallel government and what can this bring?

I can only create problems for them and I don't expect such a move. All information which is currently available to me shows that there is readiness to normalize the situation. I believe that this is the most favorable position for them also.

Has Ivanic done something wrong, and what did you do right?

Ivanic hasn't done anything wrong. Simply, his concept is a government of national unity, which doesn't automatically mean that this is not the government of the national unity. From the measures that it will undertake, it will show that it is that, in fact. Anyway, Mr. Ivanic has a completely constructive approach. I believe that he was in the position of de-mystifying the situations of all political subjects of RS.

Do you think that after the election of the new government the crisis in RS has deepened or overcome? How is it possible to achieve the unified police, judiciary and information system?

The crisis is definitely resolved in respect of the functioning of the state and judiciary system in the area of RS, but there will still be political confrontations between the political subjects and parties who have different standpoint from those of SDS and the Radicals. Political disputes will still exist, and RS will function uniquely.

The mandate of the government is short - what can it achieve during that time?

It is enough to establish the unique functioning of state bodies and to secure the beginning of the process of reconstruction and development, solving the numerous social problems of RS, to definitely and energetically begin the fight against all types of crime, especially against state crime, and crime which includes corruption.
