Leskovac is a town in southern Serbia and one of Slobodan Milosevic's political strongholds. It's Mayor, Nikola Jovanovic, held a recent rally to tell the town's population that the municipal authorities have worked hard to open three new markets and boost the economy in spite of hard times. Jovanovic added that he and the municipal assembly had lent unreserved support to Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic and his policies.

Jugoslav Kostic, Milosevic's special envoy for organizing various anniversaries, unveiled a monument in the town of Gadzin Han, in memory of the first Serbian scout Dragomir Matic, also known as Hawk's Eye. JUL MP’s in the Zlatibor municipality sent a telegram of support to Milosevic, to the effect that "Serbia's entire population has seen in this moment of truth and hardship that Milosevic is pursuing a wise foreign policy in the best interest of his nation". Meanwhile, a marksmanship and archery tournament in a quarry near Belgrade had a thrilling finale.

Aleksandar Rastovic, the president of Serbia's Young Socialists, said at a rally in a Belgrade suburb that the international community has been dealt a severe blow when the country's leadership and population have joined forces to form a united front. Rastovic warned that Serbia's socialists, citizens and patriots supported the ban on free media in order to preserve the country's unity and territorial integrity.

A grape-picking festival was organized in Topola. The Serbian television reported that another fascism liberation anniversary had been marked by fantastic achievements such as new schools, radio stations, motorways and schools.

A cow called Mara won the cattle show in Lajkovac. Dragan markovic, a Federal Deputy, said that Serbia'a farmers managed to produce more meat than ever in spite of the pressure brought upon them by ethnic Albanian separatists and the international community. While raising a toast to the most patriotic cow of all, Branislav Ivkovic, the Serbian minister of science and technology, said the countryside was the pillar of Serbia's safety and development.

Bearing in mind that the country was defended so valiantly at various celebrations, one must assume that the army was more than prepared to stand up for itself. Lieutenant-Colonel Radovan Curcic said in Bar that even more conscripts than are required had joined the army in the past month, while general Tomislav Obradov told recruits in Valjevo that being a member of his unit was a privilege of but a few. He asked his “chosen few” to stand firm with the nation in defending the country, in accordance with the ancient and heroic traditions of the Serbian nation.

According to a local television reporter, "the recruits held their weapons tightly while taking an oath of loyalty, not shedding a single tear".
