Censorship

Some post offices in Vojvodina have been ordered to previously read and censor messages sent by telefax "if any politician is offended in them". The only criteria is the judgement of postal clerks. It is assumed that the local offices of the Ministry of Interior will do the rest. This order is very interesting from the legal point of view: the privacy of communications is guaranteed by law, except in the cases when the District Attorney makes a precedent in the interest of the crime investigation. It is applied only in specific cases and cannot cover the entire telephone communication network, which includes telefax as well.

Although it is a legally clear matter, it does not mean anything: an order has to be obeyed. The basics of law are dying out in these parts, even when more important legal rights are concerned. Right to life, for instance.
