Milan St. Protic Speaks for Vreme

by elena Grujic

The weekend newspapers announced a new commotion in the Alliance for Changes (AFC). If there would be one more ingredient, a new conglomerate of parties would be popular on the Serbian political stage. But, as the things stand now, it is just an alliance between a Serbian political club "Defence" and "New Serbia". Milan St. Protic will be in charge for the foreign politics, media and organisation in Belgrade. Velimir Ilic will deal with the infrastructure and economic matters. Talking about the ambitions of this 'project', Protic says for VREME that both sides had experience in co-operation, and thus it is logical for them to unite.
'My expectations are that this is the first step towards unification of the opposition and that our gesture will encourage other members of AFC as well as other parties that are not members of AFC, to follow us.'

Is the next step of 'Defence' and 'New Serbia' to unite with the Civic Alliance of Serbia?
'For the time being I cannot tell you much. The Civic Alliance has to make such a decision. It is true that we are discussing that possibility for some time, but they are still silent about it.'

What influence would a possible removal of Zoran Djindjic from Democratic Party have on the relations within the AFC?
'I hope that the removal of Mr. Djindjic will not make any influence on our relations. That is internal matter of the Democratic Party and Mr. Djindjic's personal decision. We think that it is inappropriate to interfere with this highly sensitive matter, and especially to give our opinions on that. I can only say that everyone from AFC enjoyed a very successful co-operation with Mr. Djindjic as with all others.'
