Stop the Violence

Seselj: Career of Threats and Insults

Directors and editors-in-chief of the biggest private and independent media houses in Serbia have accepted the suggestion of the Independent Association of Journalists in Serbia to restrain from reporting the details of conferences of the Radical party for the time being, as well as not to publish the statements of that party and of its officials.

This decision is an expression of protest due to the threats of this party's leaders' intimidation in the form of confinement and assassination of journalists. It is demanded that the state should, by applying the law, stop the outbursts of violence, the spread of hatred and all kinds of intolerance.

Seselj: Career of Threats and Insults

Ever since the entry to the Parliament of Serbia, in 1991, Seselj has enjoyed the reputation of recorder in the disciplines of pronouncing insults and slanders, and of looking down on his colleagues, committee members, mainly those of the opposition. He has constantly offended the peoples that had lived in the former Yugoslavia. Seselj's incidents outside the Parliament were sometimes taking the form of physical conflicts.

At the time of forming the multi-party system (1990), Seselj and his backers from the Serbian Chitin Movement were causing disorder at political meetings. The same year, at the pre-election campaign of Belgrade reformists in Dom Omladine building in the capital, the writer Mirko Kovac was hit in the head with a camera. Seselj's comment was: 'Mirko Kovac deserved to be hit by a camera in his head in order to regain consciousness...'

Chetnik Jokes
At the beginning of war (in Spring 1991, after the events in Plitvice and in Borovo Selo), the Politika TV stated that 'the Chetniks are no longer digging the eyes with knives, but with rusted forks'. Later, it was said that it had only been a joke.

Guns and Spanking
On June 11th 1992, in front of the Federal Parliament, Seselj hit with the fist one taxi-protestant, who directed a swear word to a member of Seselj's security, after which several bullets were shot out of automatic weapons.

In June 1992, Seselj attacked the teachers who organised demonstrations in front of the Parliament of Serbia.
On July 9th 1992, in front of the entrance to the Serbian Parliament, Seselj waved with a gun and threatened the demonstrators of the Student Protest of '92, who had previously hit him with a soap, shouting 'wash your bloody hands'.

Attacks on Journalists
During the strike of the employed in Radio Belgrade in 1992, in the state TV News Review, Seselj read out the list of journalists which should be removed from the state radio and television, because 'they worked for foreign information services, Serbian betraying parties, like HDZ and VMRO???'. He demanded the inauguration of other journalists to those places, like 'the checked Serbian patriots'.

As a representative in the Parliament, on July 10th 1992, in the restaurant of the Serbian Parliament, Seselj attacked a photo reporter of 'Srpska Rec', Djordje Vukoje and smashed his camera.

Collocutors
The insults on the account of his political collocutors are Seselj's favourite manner. In September 1992, he addressed an insult to Ljubica Beba Dzakovic in the Parliament, suggesting her to turn to some of Belgrade's gigolo clubs. In 1993, Seselj brutally offended the advisers of the then President of FRY, Dobrica Cosic - Svetozar Stojanovic and Dragan Rancic, at the time of negotiations about the elections terms and conditions. He also showered professor Dragoljub Micunovic with slanders in the Parliament of FRY, and also uttered some insults on the account of the heir to the throne Aleksandar. In various TV discussions in 1997, he spoke ill of the fathers of professors Vladeta Jankovic and Zarko Korac. The same method was used in the studio of BK television, when he slandered the dead father of Nikola Barovic.

About Milosevic
After the meeting between President of Serbia, Slobodan Milosevic and Koziriyev in July 1994, Seselj sent a message to Milosevic that he should not accept the plan of the Contact group, and in case Milosevic did that, Seselj promised him and his wife the same destiny as that of Aleksandar Obrenovic and Draga Masin.
After the interruption of relationship with RSK??? , the leader of the Radicals warned that it had been the moment in which Milosevic's position became finally insecure and numbered his glasses of whisky.

'Milosevic is the greatest criminal and the greatest Serbian traitor. We, Serbian Radicals shall continue to fight against him and the red witch from Dedinje, and we shall overthrow them.' ('Nasa Borba', August 4th 1995)
'Since Milosevic is the most superb expert in crime, and had gathered around himself only criminals. He knows very well how to plunder his own people.' ('Politika', April 8th 1994)

'Milosevic shall betray Kosovo and Metohija, Raska and the so-called Panonija in Vojvodina.

He shall agree to the secession of Serbia from Montenegro. That modern Serbian Caligula is capable of reducing Serbia only to Ada Ciganlija.' ('Nin', November 11th 1994)
'Those NATO aircraft which bombed Udbine were guided by Slobodan Milosevic.' ('Politika', November 22nd 1994)
'Milosevic shall soon go to prison.' ('Velika Srbija', January 1995)
'The greatest criminals in Montenegro are Milo Djukanovic and Momir Bulatovic, whereas in Serbia, Slobodan Milosevic and Radoman Bozovic,' ('Nasa Borba', May 11th 1995)
'Behind all those criminal scandals in Serbia stands Slobodan Milosevic in person.' ('Nin', June 23rd 1995)

About JUL and Mirjana Markovic-Milosevic
'Jul gathers only the worst outlaws. To be a member of JUL means to be  criminal.' ('Argument', March 8th 1996)
'Mirjana Markovic is, for us Radicals, a red witch from Dedinje, the greatest evil of the Serbian population.' ('Borba', March 24th 1995)

About the Serbian Orthodox Church
'The memorandum of the Serbian Orthodox Church was written under the pressure of east-American bishop Christopher Peterbourg. It must not be neglected the role of Atanasije Jevtic, who has been behaving like a devil's apprentice for a long time.' ('Vecernje Novosti', June 6th 1992)

War
At the time of war in Croatia and Bosnia, Seselj was suggesting the Serbs to attack Zadar and the bridge of Maslenik, and to destroy Zagreb and Osijek with the use of the so-called 'luna' missiles.
'The Italian Minister of Defence knows that the Serbs possess SS-22 rockets, which can bear nuclear heads. They are very dangerous and hard to knock down... We shall flatten Zagreb and other Croat towns.' ('Nin', May 21st 1993) The Bosnian Serbs should apply the same system of revenge which has to make at least the inhabitants of Kragujevac disgusted - one hundred for one.

The Federal Government
Dr. Vojislav Seselj addressed to the members of Panic's government, in the Parliament of FRY, on December 1993: 'I shall first confiscate your passports, and then have you all arrested.'

The Albanians
'If it comes to the bombing, if the American aggression starts taking place, the Serbs will get killed in great numbers, but there will be no Albanians in Kosovo...' (a meeting of the Radical Party, the 'Pinki' hall, February 27th 1999)

Neighbours
'I shall warn all neighbouring states not to play with fire. Any neighbouring country which allows the attacks from her territory on Serbia, will find itself in war with the Serbs... If a single American rifle opens fire on Serbia and the Serbs, we guarantee that noting will remain of Macedonia.' (meeting of the Radical Party, the 'Pinki' hall, February 27th 1999)
