"Lunch" with Milosevic

The public was not little surprise when the information about Milan Panic's six-hour conversation with Slobodan Milosevic "leaked" a few days ago. This was confirmed later on with the explanation that the talks were "long and difficult". They were held, as we have learned, in the Serbian Presidency's building on Thursday and lasted from 1:30 PM to 7:30 PM. The meeting, which took place at Panic's initiative, was conceived as a "working lunch", but it was prolonged until dinner. One of the topics of discussion was also the possibility of the Serbian president submitting his resignation because of the people's discontent. This is, in fact, the old idea about not dismissing Milosevic, but rather making it possible for him to leave the post of president "in a dignified way". Visibly dissatisfied with the result of these six-hour talks, Panic said that he is ready talk another six hours with Milosevic. "If he weren't convinced that these talks could lead to a positive outcome, he would have never gotten into them", we have heard from Panic's associates.
