The Worldwide Travels Of PM Panic

An Impressive List

On August 10, Panic was received in Athens by the Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis and later in Tirana by the Albanian Prime Minister. Two days later, in Ankara, he had talks with President Demirel. In Brussels, in the middle of August, he met for the first time Lord Carrington and Cyrus Vance, and at the end of the month, in Vienna, he spoke with the British Minister of Foreign Affairs Douglas Hurd, and his French colleague Dumas. At the end of the same month he took part in the London Conference where he presented his twelve point peace plan.

From September 14 to 16, Panic was in China, where he was received by President Shangkun and Premier Li Peng. A week later, at the meeting of the UN General Assembly in New York, he met with the foreign affairs ministers of the five permanent member states of the Security Council. In the course of his American tour, he talked to 26 congressmen and met with Lawrence Eagleberger.

Panic met with Chancellor Vranitzki and Foreign Minister Mock in Vienna on October 21. Before going to Vienna and afterwards, the Prime Minister spoke a number of times with the co-presidents of the Geneva Conference on Yugoslavia, Cyrus Vance and Lord Owen. On November 5 and 6, in Brussels, Panic spoke with the president of the EC Executive Commission Jacques Delors, with other top representatives of the Community and European Parliament, with the president of the Belgium parliament and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The worldwide travels of Prime Minister Panic ended for the time being on November 26 in Bonn, where he spoke with Chancellor Kohl, Foreign Minister Kinkel, leaders of the opposition and members of the foreign policy board of the Bundestag.

People with whom Panic spoke in Belgrade are not included in this list, neither are his meetings with the presidents of the former Yugoslav republics, Izetbegovic, Gligorov and Tudjman.
