The Silence of the State Commission

by Ivan Radovanovic

The first case when the Yugoslav citizens, who chanced to find themselves on the territory of Bosnia-Herzegovina, were abducted took place in late October 1992. The Moslems from Priboj had a bad luck as the route from their village to Priboj goes through Bosnia-Herzegovina. It is important to remind of this, since the President of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Dobrica Cosic had on that occasion formed a four member State Commission. The Commission was to investigate the case and submit a report on the data it had gathered to the President himself and to the public. However, the public was not informed about the results of the Commission, not even after the latest abduction took place in the vicinity of Priboj ( it is a ten minute ride from Priboj to Strbci ) .

It is still not known whether the President, unlike the public, received any information.

The only information which the weekly VREME has managed to find out so far is that the State Commission, formed after the first case, is apparently to be extended after the second case.

The Commision has gone to Priboj several times, where it was noted that the Priboj police refused to provide security for the Commission during its first stay in the town. Many suspect that the orders had come from the Belgrade Police Headquarters.

Taken everything into consideration, it si hard to imagine that anyone in the right mind could ever believe that the bodies which President Cosic, perhaps in the best faith, forms in this country would be able to achieve anything. The boss is obviously on the other side, regardless of the fact whether Cosic's Commissions are extended or not.
