No one is spoiling for a fight around Sarajevo. The time has come to save face, and get out of the mess, before someone gets hurt. All at once, Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic's Serbs, the United Nations and NATO have discovered unknown reserves of patience, good will and readiness to make concessions. It seems as if an agreement is possible

A photograph showing a column of ten-odd cars with black registration plates moving along an empty highway on their way to Subotica, scared a lot of people more than all the threats made by Western military and civilian officials of a possible air strike against the Serbs in Bosnia, and all those television reports showing planes taking off from aircraft carriers in the Adriatic.

Possible NATO air strikes on Bosnian Serb positions have overshadowed the first signs of normalized relations between the regimes in Belgrade and Zagreb. But coinciding with this is a report leaked out from rather reliable sources on the crash over Krajina of a Croatian MiG 21.

The presence of U.N. troops here, although in a small number, sends a clear message to all those who might come their way if the conflict spills out to Macedonia. This is rather a political than a military warning.

"Der Schlaechter von Serbian" is the headline of an article published in Tuesday's edition of the German daily Bild with the circulation of five million. The headline of the article, revealing details of the arrest of a man believed to have been involved in a genocide in Bosnia-Herzegovina, means "The Butcher of Serbia" and was obviously inspired by the famous "Lawrence of Arabia."

Dusan Tadic, known as Dule, was born in 1955 and owns the "Nipon" cafe in Kozarac. He is an expert in martial arts. Tadic is on the list of those suspected of war crimes committed in Prijedor and Kozarac and kept in the Documentation Center in Zenica. Tadic is listed as no. 431

Exhausted men ate their bits of bread and broth, saying they weren't hungry. They were captives in the "Omarska'' camp in late July 1992. It was clear then that the truth about them and their guards would be learned only after the camp had been closed down.

"I'd like to see the objections made by Croatia's opposition and media since I didn't have the time to read them. I think that this is a settling of accounts between the opposition and the HDZ, and has nothing to do with my personality. But let them be, they are part of reality.''

Stevan Tontic is this year's recipient of the literary award "Zmajeva Nagrada'' for his book of poetry "Sarajevski Rukopis'' (The Sarajevo Manuscript), published by "Vreme Knjige,'' the literary department of the "Vreme'' publishing company.
