Radio

Banja Luka residents spent the night of November 21-22 celebrating the Dayton peace agreement on Bosnia. They partied at home and in bars and restaurants. The city's local BIG radio had a phone in; listeners spoke about what they're drinking and who they're partying with. In the morning one of the anchors of the popular radio asked: "Peace has escalated. What are the war profiteers going to do now?" Reactions from those people are still to come and most of Banja Luka fears the radio could fall out of grace again.

Apocalypse

Readers of the magazine Sixth Sense knew long ago when the sanctions would be lifted. Politika Ekspres daily recalled that the magazine (in its issue of December 28, 1994) published a prediction for the period till the end of the century as interpreted from the Scriptures According to John. The interpreter was a "discrete Belgrade university professor who has decided to remain anonymous".

Scripture: And a great sign appeared in the sky: a woman dressed in the sun and the moon under her feet and on her head a wreath of 12 stars, and she was pregnant and screaming from the pains of birth. And a second sign appeared in the sky and a great dragon, red as fire, with seven heads and nine horn and on its heads seven crowns. And the dragon stood before the woman giving birth waiting to devour the child. And she bore a child, a shepherd with an iron wand who God took to himself. And the woman fled into the desert where she had a place that God prepared for her, to feed her for 1260 days.

Interpretation: This is about the great powers, especially the USA (towards the USE (United States of Europe - the 12 stars) and their fight for supremacy after the fall of the Soviet Union. These relationships will reflect on many hotspots: southern Europe, eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, near and far East.

The biblical desert is Serbia and it will remain under sanctions for 1260 days or 42 months (till November 21, 1995) the professor concluded.

There is no sign of Montenegro under the sanctions, the apocalypse ended right on time and the choice of shepherd with the iron wand is left up to the reader.

Potatoes

The union of the Zlatibor construction company in Uzice played a joke with its workers when it delivered cooking oil they ordered after seven months but were repaid by the workers who were offered potatoes at 0.60 dinars (the same price as on the Uzice market). Some signed up for 300 grams, some for half a kilo, some even for a whole kilo according to their financial abilities they said.

Although there was no limit on amounts that could be ordered, the union president, lacking a sense of humor, refused to deliver.

Censor

Readers of Politika's early (provincial) edition could read an article titled "Why Did They Fight" on the back pages: "The well known media campaign called "echoes and reactions", (launched in late 80's as a form of support to Milosevic), practiced on lesser occasions, was not unexpected. Still, the approach of the RTS visibly showed an old pattern which could be named "After Tito - Sloba". When Milorad Komrakov, TV Serbia correspondent, was waiting at Surcin airport for the president's plane to land he said: "Another great peacemaking mission by our president is ending". That sounded so familiar to people who remember Tito's presidency. It just looked a little different since the family was introduced into the scene and the children with flowers were taken out. Tito's peace making held out only until the man left."

The Belgrade edition did not include that article probably because the most important reader lives here. The Belgrade edition had a video top 10 list on that page.
