Reading the Stars

by Elizabeta Lukic-Zelug, an astrologer

Dubrovnik has in its long history only once belonged to a single state, Austro-Hungary, from 1815 until 1818, when it became part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croatians and Slovenes. The historians say that it used to be a city of Southern Slavs and according to the constellation of the stars it will continue to be so, only it will now be lit with a new light, a light which could make it one of the most important cultural centres of Europe and the world. Dubrovnik was born on May 27, 1358 under the sign of Gemini, and its ascendent is in Virgo. It was independent for almost five centuries which is clearly indicated by the conjunction of the Sun, which represents the ruler with Uranus, the planet of revolutionary changes, new trends, independence, freedom. The moon (the planet representing the people) is in the sign of Aquarius, the sign which treasures freedom and independence most of all. This planet is occupying the fifth house in the astrological chart and it speaks of new ideas and originality. Thus it is not surprising that this city was paying the Turks 12,500 ducats in gold to keep its freedom. Venus, the planet representing art, glory and success is in Cancer, the house which represents authority and refers to certain important figures in culture and art, which will play an important part in the planning of the future of Dubrovnik. The house representing foreign relations is represented by Jupiter and it symbolizes success, spirituality, culture, prosperity, banking, so it is not surprising that it has always had excellent diplomatic relations with its business partners. The future holds numerous opportunities for activating this brilliant aspect, the most important being that it means some important people from abroad will come and use their influence to further the prosperity of this city. The current unfortunate events in Dubrovnik were caused by its unfavourable astrological aspects of Saturn in Aquarius in conjunction with the Sun. It would be interesting to note that Saturn was in transit over the Moon in 1815 as well, which is the date Dubrovnik lost its independence. This is the seventh time Saturn has passed through this sign. Since the Moon (the population) is included in this unfavourable aspect, we can certainly expect demographic changes which will create the preconditions whereby this city will once and for all erase its nationalist landmarks. The astrological aspects of recent months point to the beginning of the new era in the history of this city, since planet Jupiter is passing through the first house, which means respectability, so it is not surprising that Dubrovnik should be the centre of attention of the world media. The presence of Jupiter will certainly mark the new era whereby this city will renew its cultural independence. Activating planets Venus, Uranus and Mercury in the second half of 1992 will create the preconditions for the future transformation. March 1993 will be crucial for the future of this city, since planets Uranus and Neptune (which together bring about revolutionary changes and which meet every 172 years) will be forming very important aspects with the Sun, Uranus and Mercury (art, media, communication). Some important incidents will then enable the beginning of a very active cultural life in this city. The Dubrovnik's return to dignity will last until January 1997 when an important cycle in the civilized traditions of this city will begin which will, most probably be marked by the organization of the world famous festivals and cultural manifestations. Dubrovnik could then become an important world cultural and art centre. In March 2000 some important decisions will be passed which will give this city a special status. Dubrovnik should by then definitely become a city of culture, the exchange of knowledge, wisdom, new philosophy. The symbol which would speak of its dignity would be the Dove, a symbol of freedom, knowledge and wisdom. Considering that all this will be happening at the beginning of the age of the Aquarius where all the spiritual values will be representing the highest ideals along with the idea of living in harmony with nature, some of the most important civilized values could be started and developed in these parts. It would not be an exaggeration for me to say that Dubrovnik, according to its horoscope, could become a centre of the new cultural trends which will mark the next century and make a considerable contribution in the future of the civilized world. According to the stars the "age of glory" in Dubrovnik should start in 2000 and will last 234 years.
